Book launch: Willy Van Der Meeren - VUB: From static to dynamic

On Monday 22 June 2026, VUB Architectural Engineering will host the launch of the new book Willy Van Der Meeren – VUB: from static to dynamic. Written by Mil De Kooning, Stephanie Van de Voorde and Ellen Van Impe, the book explores the remarkable collaboration between Willy Van Der Meeren and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, showing how his work — from student housing and furniture to a masterplan for Jette and the design of an electric car — helped shape the identity of a young university in motion.

The book launch will take place on Monday 22 June 2026, from 17:00 to 20:00, in the design studio of the department ARCH. The programme starts at 17:00 with optional guided tours of the WVDM Living Lab, followed by the book launch at 18:00 during which Stephanie Van de Voorde, Charlotte Nys and Ellen Van Impe will discuss Van Der Meeren’s collaboration with VUB in the 1970s, his role as a teacher, and the archives and memories connected to his work on campus. The launch will be followed by a reception. The evening is organised by VUB, CAVA, VUB Architectural Engineering, vzw A&D 50 and Borgerhoff & Lamberigts. Please not: the event will be in Dutch.
